We all engage in a little self-diagnosis now and then. But some conditions call for more drastic action. Call your doctor if you experience:

Unusual changes. Weight gain or loss, a sore that won’t heal or a lump or thickening in the breast are all reasons to see your physician.

Bleeding. Rectal bleeding, blood in the urine or blood when you cough can be signs of something simple. But it can also mean something more serious, including a cancerous growth. Your health-care provider will be able to determine the best course of treatment.

Mood swings. Feeling blue for more than two weeks, increased irritability or a lack of interest in activities you once found enjoyable could be a sign of depression. Your doctor will be able to recommend a solution that’s right for you.
